ode to mariner's cove

i love the other, less-known side of cedar campus--mariner's cove... i spent 6 straight weeks of fun-derful children's program teacherhood living in the ol' windward cabin with luke, sexy matthew, our dear late 6'6" caleb michael jordan--the joker ("there's only two of them in a deck"), nate fish, spain's very own braulio, captain fun ben schaefer, ma and of course, my hometown friend captain gorgeous kyle, k-double, k-dubs, the ace of hearts. working at mariner's cove is how i met rob and gayle and their four beautiful children, ace of spades ryan smith, the son of the legend himself, jerry smith and his wife nancy... not to mention the lovely crew girls! how i miss them all.

the facilities...
i love the continued winnie the pooh theme after the floating bear: owl's nest, the hunny pot, kanga's room, etc. taylor lodge is just as grand as willoughby, and the vball is right on the beach. the long walkway has already supported the footsteps of growing children and the walking canes of the elderly for years. beforehand, i'd only seen the back part of the taylor lodge as i cleaned for turnover after CFW 2004, but since then...

in general...
-watching the aurora borealis and eerily and noiselessly or a shooting star leave a brilliant shining line across outer space for 3 seconds before fading away...
-seeing the wild side of sue vaal (no more than 11 mph on cedar campus drive)...
-playing vball and its other iterations, making or judging sand castles (three blind mice!!!), or just sitting on that long wooden deck and digging your toes into the warm sand on the beach...
-figuring out how to drive elizabeth's 1991 volkswagen stick-shift and then breaking it on the freeway...
-legitimately beating andy vaal and chuck in foosball...
-watching B&G kill rabid bats with a shovel...
-making the Kids' kiosK a fantastic dream realized...
-breaking curfew with Kyle and spending 6 hours doing dishes in punishment...
-meeting and playing intense foosball with Mack Stiles and his family... then reading his book...
-making crew road-trips up to the Soo theater and watching the latest movies for $5...
-Team ACE Crewsaders beating the campers in basketball...
-roving through the woods to mariner's cabin and making faces at the animal exhibits...
-sitting on the porch with a bunch of parents, watching their kids, reading, chatting, or being silent together... i love it
-doing Turnover every Saturday morning...

in windward cabin...
-my bosses elizabeth and abby reading us pooh bedtime stories from the outside through our windows, or us guys serenading the neighboring girls through theirs...
-making late night tea or fruit punch-lemonade at the lodge and then walking back through the woods with so little light...
-eating twizzlers and 5-lb bags of gummi bears...
-stealing pitchers of iced tea/fruit punch...
-playing lord of the rings risk on our incredibly quiet make-shift felt board table...
-reading c.s. lewis and kyle's batman comics simultaneously...
-taking a "kobe" or a "shaq" in our bathroom... you can guess which one's which...
-buying a microwave from the Cedarville thrift store for $10 and then making popcorn or ramen in our room for a late night snack...
-drinking, washing and showering with non-eggy water...

summer on the other side was a time and place of some of my fondest memories for me. i wish you could have been there to share them with me. chapter camp will be a mixing of two different worlds, two different histories, in my mind.

The Kill Zone Reloaded

Apt. 3: 1
Apt. 6: 3

i'm giving them 1 measly point because i did have to change my shirt... but maybe i should give myself another point for completely taking over their apartment single-handedly. also, i scored 519,709 in photohunt on March 26th (in case you forgot).

but overall, their so-called "surprise" was met by an even bigger surprise. we won. i mean, seriously. what war general doesn't anticipate retaliation?

but i applaud you three
girls for planning such a fun evening (and thanks for the ice cream). and the other Apt. 6? shame on you for aiding and abetting the non-6ers!

*edit*

the other Apt. 6: 0.2

a mere tenth of a point for each of the
two traitors to the apt. 6 cause! maybe it was out of anger for our too infrequent visits, but by all rights i think i visited the other 6 more than the Apt. 3 residents did combined, not even including the body worship sessions.

anyway, jenny
has a point... i think brian has probably visited all three of our apartments more frequently than any of the actual residents visited the other two. how shameful. and irene? she should have gotten hit in the face with a pillow. somehow...

Apt. Brian: 47

brian wins.

*end edit*

count it. 26 March 2006. i'll bring it every month, baby.

Currently Watching
Elektra (Unrated Director's Cut)
see related
so. after more than a year's addiction to a ridiculous movie promo game, "elektra ninja assassin," my good friend dan sa finally got me the elektra movie for my birthday. and we proceeded to watch it this night.

quote of the night:
dan sa, in the middle of the movie: "I'm so disappointed, this movie isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be."
honorable mention (when would you ever say this ever?):
jenny yeh: "So, if all of those snakes get killed, then that guy won't have any tattoos anymore."

anyway, dan's right. it wasn't that bad of a movie. yes, it was a bad movie, but it was no second coming of "catwoman" (which, i assure you, i will never take any worthless time watching unless paid 20+ dollars or am forced under pain of death). speaking of bad movies, i'm waiting to see this "invincible" brian and dan keep talking about. apparently it's a doosy.

to boot (haha, i said "to boot"), i liked my birthday. it was a great day, from before i went to bed this morning to burning breakfast with Joyce to Knox care packages to crisler cleanup to pizza house half pound/big as a house burgers to the movie to now, here, on xanga. i love you. thank you for your calls, emails, IMs, hugs, kisses (NOT chang), signing (chang, irene).

i need to grow up =) Jesus, my Lord and my God, thank You for taking care of me, even through the times i've strayed so far and away... from You, the author and perfecter of my faith, the reason i live, the reason i love. You are my joy everlasting.

my flag is at half-mast.

caleb jordan 1984-2005

this is not at all how we thought it was supposed to be
we had so many plans for you, we had so many dreams
but now you've gone away, and left us with the memory of your smile
and nothing we can say, and nothing we can do
can take away the pain, the pain of losing you

but we can cry with hope, we can say good-bye with hope
'cause we know our good-bye is not the end, oh no
and we can grieve with hope, 'cause we believe with hope
there's a place where we'll see your face again

never have i known anything so hard to understand
and never have i questioned more the wisdom of God's plan
but through the cloud of tears, i see the Father smile, and say, "well done"
and i imagine you where you wanted most to be
seeing all your dreams come true, 'cause now you're home and now you're free

we have this hope as an anchor
'cause we believe that everything God's promised us is true

we wait with hope
we ache with hope
we say good-bye with hope
